International Museum Day
The International Council of Museums (ICOM), created in 1946 in order to promote and protect the present and future, tangible and intangible cultural and natural heritage of humanity, decided to organize since 1977 the International Museum Day and established May 18 as the day on which it would seek to increase public awareness of the role that museums have in the development of society. Each year they choose a theme and this 2017 the theme is "Museums and controversial stories: saying the unspeakable in museums", tries to highlight the role of museums that, putting themselves at the service of society can become centers of pacification of relations between peoples, likewise, highlights how the acceptance of a painful past constitutes a first step to imagine a common future under the sign of reconciliation. Mexico City, is the 2nd city with more museums in the world and could not be left behind in this festivity, as you know, every last Wednesday of the month takes place since 2009 the traditional Night of Museums, where the different cultural venues open their doors for visitors and residents to approach culture at night; but for the second consecutive year it decides not only to dedicate a day to the Museums, but the whole month of May, some of the events you can enjoy are:
Special Evening and Museum Nights
Special Evening May 18: Each Museum and Cultural Precinct will carry out endless activities from concerts, dance, readings, performances, etc. So so that you know the schedules and activities you must enter the pages of each venue. If you live outside the CDMX, you can see what activities are scheduled to commemorate this day in the tourism pages of your city
